Gelli Plates are a flexible plate made of a thick single layer of a gelatin-like plastic material which contains mineral oil. This plate is stable and reusable if it is cleaned after each use. They are durable and long lasting and are ideal for monoprinting without a press. There are many ways to use the gel plates to print – it really is all about working in an experimental, expressive, spontaneous and creative way.
On this course you will learn what paint works best for the methods, how to ink up and print with a Gelli Plate, how to plan for your monoprinted layered Gelli plate printing, cut stencils and masks to use in your prints. Use thin papers and tissue paper to print image, shape, textures and text to be used for collage pieces. Create layered prints using drawing methods, transferred magazine or photographic images, and use masks and cut shapes to add interest.
