Charles Shearer specialises in illustration and teaches printmaking at numerous art schools alongside working on personal projects including commissions for books and magazines. This day will explore some techniques inspired by his work using cardboard cut printmaking

Course structure • Introduction looking at examples, and of Charles’s original work • Explanation of the cardboard cut technique • Introduction to tools, materials and methods • Use and experiment with a range of tools, mark making and scoring to add both texture and a distinct character • How to apply inks • The use of masking and creating shape with jigsaw pieces in creating an image • How to print with a press and a baren
